CACDA Attended 2019 Moscow Nonproliferation Conference

On November 7-9, 2019, the Moscow Nonproliferation Conference was held by Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS), Russian Federation. Secretary-General Li Chijiang was invited and led a Chinese delegation to the conference. This year’s conference agenda included the Future of the Nonproliferation Regime and Arms Control, 2020 NPT Review Conference, the Nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula, Iranian Nuclear issue, CTBT, International Cooperation on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, Strategic Stability in South Asia, Establishing a WMDFZ in the Middle East, etc. Over 300 representatives of 40 countries, including governments, international organizations, institutes, academies attended the conference. Sergey Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, Under Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs of the United Nations and Fu Cong, Director-General of Arms Control Department of Chinese Foreign Ministry delivered speeches during the conference.

Secretary-General Li Chijiang and CENESS Director Anton Khlopkov co-chaired a plenary session on The Korean Peninsula: What’s New and What’s Next? Igor Morgulov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Jo Chol Su, President of Institute for American Studies, DPRK, Kent Harstedt, Special Envoy for the Korean Peninsula, Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Suzanne Dimaggio, Senior Fellow of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace joined the panel discussion. CACDA delegates actively participated relevant plenary sessions on international security issues during the conference.

The Moscow Nonproliferation Conference was launched in 2012 by CENESS and supported by Russian Foreign Ministry.
